Classes

Henna is so much fun that we think everyone should learn! We offer four levels of instruction, depending on what you're looking for. All classes and parties are held in my home in New Britain, CT, on the second floor (so mobility-challenged people will need assistance). If you'd like a class at a different time or location, please ask. I am willing to travel.

Henna Basics Workshop

Henna Basics Workshop  These fun gatherings are for people who love to have henna done and want to learn how to do it themselves. We cover history, traditions, and designs, plus practical matters such as choosing a powder, developing a recipe, mixing, application, and aftercare, as well as what factors affect a stain and how and where to apply for best results. Workshop cost is $50, which includes handouts, henna designs done in class, and henna paste to take home.  Participants may also purchase discounted henna kits at $15 on the day of the class.  Classes are usually on a Sunday from 2-4pm but can be arranged any time there is interest.  Please email for details.

Professional One-Day Workshop

This is scheduled by appointment only and is geared toward teaching how to do henna in a professional setting. The exact course will depend on who the class is for- salon workers need different information than people doing rock concerts. However, everyone in the class will leave knowing how to find, prepare, and use henna, as well as how to find jobs, how to advertise, plus tips and tricks I've picked up along the way. This class is generally three hours long. It can stand alone, but professionals will also be well served to take the Class Series, as it gives much more background information. Price and materials included will be discussed at the time of scheduling.

Apprenticeship

I'm looking for some good people to work with at festivals and events.  I will bring you to various events, pay your way in, feed you, and if necessary, get you a place to sleep overnight while you're there. If the event requires a costume, I will loan you one or help you make one. I will teach you everything I know about henna and the henna business.  In exchange for this, you will help me set up and tear down my booth, run errands, help sit on my children as needed at events, and in general help with the operation of the booth. You would not have to come to every event, but would be welcome at them all. After you get the hang of the "front desk" position and are able to handle the crowd and answer questions, you will start getting paid a portion of the booth proceeds.  After you start developing your own skills as an artist, you will join the business as a partner and make your own share!  If you're interested in this, start by signing up for the Basics class.  That way you can see what you're getting into before you commit! Drop me a line if you need more information.
